Greenpeace barricades Aussie PM's home.

CANBERRA -- Greenpeace activists dressed as U.N. peacekeepers blockaded
the official residence of the Australian prime minister on Wednesday to
protest against his decision to join in any U.S.-led attack on Iraq.

Wearing blue berets and green fatigues, around a dozen anti-war
campaigners from the environmental pressure group chained themselves
under U.N.-lookalike four-wheel-drive vehicles blocking the entrances to
Prime Minister John Howard's home.

The protest prevented Howard leaving for nearby Parliament House by car,
forcing him instead to use a pedestrian gate to reach a waiting car
outside.

Dressed in shorts, T-shirt and running shoes, he shook the hand of a
protester who approached to berate him for supporting U.S. President
George W. Bush.

"Greenpeace has placed the prime minister under symbolic house arrest to
convey the message to the Australian public that the activities of
pre-emptively striking Iraq are immoral, illegal and the Australian
public doesn't want it," Greenpeace campaigner Shane Rattenbury said in
the capital Canberra.

"It is not our war."

Cars passing on a nearby road honked their horns in apparent support of
the protesters, who waved banners branding Howard a "war criminal" or
proclaiming: "Howard's war a bloody outrage."

None of the protesters were charged, although four were taken into
custody to sign undertakings not to return.

A federal police spokeswoman said she did not know whether security at
the prime minister's residence would be upgraded.
