Dont know about the "Magic" part, but about accessing the
drive with a DOS boot disk... nope. Not really.

XP is using NTFS, AFAIK, and DOS usually support FAT16 and FAT32.
(FAT16 with or without LFN). For NTFS, you need special support...

Now, I -did- see a TSR floating around that is seposed to give you
etleast a limited read-only access for NTFS partitions.
Cant remember where it is, though.. sorry.

Personally, I believe that its possible to make a DOS XP "rescue
disk" for these cases when the GUI crash and you're unable to
get into your drive anymore (because there's no text-mode command
line). A DOS boot-disk with NTFS access and NTFS-compatible
tools will proove to be very helpful in the near future.
