Benny Dayal , the upcoming and one of the most promising singers who hails from Thevalli , Kollam (Kerala) , recently received Kannadasan Award and Kalaignar TV Award for his superhit song "Madhuraikku Pogadhadee" composed by none other than A R Rahman.
Here's the transcript of his Interview published in Today's Malayala Manorama Sunday Supplement. I'm only trying to include his words related to ARR. Kindly forgive me for the mistakes.. :-) You have worked with many Composers.. What makes A R Rahman so different ? He's very simple. If we can give him more than what he is expecting, then he'll give much freedom for us to perform. It really helps to increase our confidence. And also he encourages a lot if the 'things' we add suits the song well. An experience ? When I was singing the 'Marillyn Monroe' Song, I added my own 'numbers'. He just said that it's too good and encouraged me to sing like that. Such improvising words from a composer like him for the upcoming singers are really Big ! About your chance to sing in a big movie like Sivaji... Million thanks to the Almighty for that ! It's very lucky to sing for a big banner even in chorus. But for me the priority is to enjoy the singing. I dont care whether it is a small budget or a big budget movie. I love to sing , that's why I'm singing.. The promising singer of your generation ? Benny Dayal was born and studied in Adu Dhabi for twelve years, but still he speaks Malayalam very fluently. He's very happy that he received the Kalaignar TV Award along with the Legends like Dr. Balamuralikrishna, Ilaiyaraja and A R Rahman.
