*** That is a clueless response, unbecoming of someone with a Harvard MEd degree, Umesh.

Why don't you apply a little thinking before responding ? It will do your image a lot of good. Honest!

Iran's President can go ahead and say that Holocaust never took place -- perhaps you would also like to add that Al Quaeeda did not threaten US in its recent tape but that it was the work of some journos who taped the voice of some nobody and released it.

WHY did the supposed ULFA cadres shoot Jiten Das? What was the motive, as verified or even speculated?

WHO (and HOW ) determined that the two perpetrators are indeed ULFA? Is it a guess, a mere accusation, a confession obtained under police brutalities ?

In the absence of any info. on either of the above, how a serious newspaper can write such an Editorial is beyond me.

Not to suggest it is not true. It could be. And if such a mindless killing was indeed perpetrated by ULFA, it would be reprehensible.

But how do we know that? Because the AT or the Agradoot says so?  Even that could be stretched, should either paper have demonstrated an ability to INQUIRE and REPORT with an ordinary amount of journalistic competence; something glaringly absent from either report.

Under t! he circumstances, for anyone to deliver the kind of  verdicts we have seen delivered here, at best, speaks poorly of the judgement of the judgers, and points to little more than propaganda.

What a shame. What, if anything, have the PRG and MRG have to say about this?

Brave teensFor two unarmed teenaged students it was indeed a heroic effort to chase two dreaded armed ULFA militants who had j! ust shot dead one of their revered teachers in front of the school in broad daylight, for several kilometers and manage to catch hold of one of the ultras. For their courageous act, Ratul Rabha and Rituparna Boro, class IX and X standard students respectively of Pantan High School located near Assam-Meghalaya border near Chaygaon in Kamrup district of Assam, about 50 km away from the state's capital city in Guwahati, have been selected for Bharat Award for Bravery, the highest official decoration for brave children in the country. They will receive the Award from the President of India on the next Republic Day in New Delhi along with 15 other brave counterparts from other parts of the country. Ratul is the youngest son of poor farmer Lalcharan Rabha of Dakuwapara Village under Chaygaon circle in Kamrup district of Assam. All his siblings are school drop-outs for their father couldn't afford their education. Rituparna is born to another farmer's family of B Boro who has two daughters! and another younger son, from No 2 Ratanpur Village under same revenue circle.

The two students who are defenders for the school football team, took the lead on the fateful day on May 10, 2004 in giving a hot chase to the two militants who had shot dead an assistant teacher Jiten Das (37) in front of the school. One needs to read deep into their spontaneous act of heroics prompted by a dastardly act of militants which unfolded before their eyes devastating their young minds. It is a tragedy for our society that such young members of the new generation are often exposed to such grave human tragedy of bloodshed and violence. It is a big question before the entire citizenry when these killings and counter killings will come to an end. The act of Rituparna and Ratul may have reflected the pent up anger and frustration in their subconscious mind against the violent phase they are born to. Violence can't be a solution to any problem and those members of our society who are wie! lding the power of gun to attain whatever goal they are aiming at should take serious note of the exemplary protest against violence registered by these brave teens. Given the humble background of these two teen heroes, it may be a reflection of protests of the silent majority in the society against continuing violence in the state It is significant for the fact that the area near Assam-Meghalaya boundary has been a hunting ground of militants because of its remoteness and grave problem of connectivity. There is hardly a telephone in that area located only about 50 km away from the state's capital. The people out there, mostly farmers have been living under constant fear of gun-toting militants who often knock at their doors at night to demand food and sometimes shelter, too. Born and brought up in such adverse circumstances, the two braveheart teens showed the way to face the challenge posed by militancy and in the process ended up bringing laurels to themselves as well as the state! . There is a message for those under the impression that militants have a free run of the state, thanks to sustained adverse publicity in a section of so called national media, the common people of the state are hardly with the ultras who are in the habit of training their gun on innocent people.
