On my colinux I add to dig into the colinux source code to extract the .config file (it was missing from /root on my install). After that, I did make-kpkg as explained in your page. Then, the compilation error disappeared.
The whole issue was about some missing kernel include files. Not only do you need to get the kernel source... you also need to build some of it to get these missing files.

On http://www.ramdyne.nl/ you can find an article on how I got rid of the same problems you were having (on a Debian sarge install). Unfortunately the server is down for the next couple of hours...
