Hi Michal,
this is a really brilliant idea. I tested it and it works like a charm. The
only suggestion I'd bring up is to add two parameters to the includegraphics
command:
I modified the line
(defcustom auctex-dnd-format "\\includegraphics{%s}"
into
(defcustom auctex-dnd-format "\\includegraphics[scale=1.0,angle=0]{%s}"
what does not change anything really but points out very clearly how to scale
and rotate the figure. Just my two cents here - thanks again for this very
good idea!

with constant spacing like courier! :-)
