I tried the code below:
mount -n -o remount,noxino / || echo "Remount noxino / failed:
$?"
mount -n -o remount,mod:/cow=ro / || echo "Remount /cow(ro)
failed: $?" && (lsof /cow; lsof /)
mount -n -o remount,ro /cow || echo "Remount /cow (ro) failed:
$?"
mount -n -o remount,ro /
The second command fails, saying / is busy.
lsof of / shows lots of files. lsof of /cow shows none.
All the rest of the command succeed, however, and it appears /cow is
properly mounted (ro) and cleaned up.
So, it seems a bit strange that the second, and only the second,
command fails...but the end result is that /cow is clean, so
I guess that is good enough.
If you have more suggestions, I'll give them a try..but if not,
then I'm moving on to other things..will le you know if I find
any strange issues in later testing either way.
