Thanks! That was it. What happened was I copied those xml files to $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/www/... rather than the base install dir. I'm thinking what I was thinking is that once I had the Base2 website up, it was “installed” under tomcat, not connecting the fact that I had to go to the original installation dir to run the updatedb.sh.
