Reviews

Yochanan:
Japantown’s Obon Festival (previous weekend). Attended on Sunday, had a
marvelous time. Mostly outdoors, free. Taiko, food, stores, group dance. Had a
fantastic time. Two thumbs up.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Saw last Tuesday. Discount rate, got
money’s worth. Dealing has got better. There’s an underutilized time-travel
element. Favorites (in order) 1,3,5 - not a big fan of 2 or 4.

1917 (Showtime) WWI film. Wanted to see it originally, but didn’t manage. Loved
it. Amazing camera work.

The Best of Connie Willis. Chunky book. Mostly short stories and novellas, all
Hugo and Novella winners! Highly recommend (also includes WorldCon GOH, and
other speeches). includes author commentary.

Coherence. Finally saw it (2013) very unusual, interesting film. Has parallel
timelines. Small budget, but a compelling story. Two thumbs up. Mind-bending
and cool.

Robin:
Nimona (Netflix) A knight in a futuristic feudal society is framed for murder
and runs away. Animated. One thumb up…

Rick:
Foundation (Apple TV+) has just started season 2, based distantly on Asimov's
novels. Lee Pace and Jared Harris still expertly chewing up scenery, great
visuals, good (Bear McCreary) music, still don't know if the writers know what
they're doing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foundation_(TV_series)

Finished watching Season 1 of the dystopian-future SF series "Silo" on Apple
TV+, based on the famous novels by Hugh Howey. Tour de force. Ratchets the
tension and paranoia up each of the 10 episodes, has an epic cliff-hanger
ending. (And has been renewed.) Recommended!

Sandra:
Buried: The 1982 Alpine Meadows Avalanche on iTunes and Prime.
Interesting local content, recommended at full price.
