i updated from the cvs, and, as far as i can tell, it's fixed. although
i don't get how moving the valid=true assignment to the finally block
could possibly fix this?

Ahh, ok. Thanks to the example I think I have fixed this
in SVN (there was a very small bug that caused O(N^2) behavior
in path parsing, and you had some paths with a large N).
Please update and let us know if you agree it is fixed...
