The iTunes mechanism is unchanged. See ?>import/export

Normally on the Mac you don't  'close and reopen' apps (I assume by close
you are referring to clicking the - in the upper left corner). If you don't
close then your data should still be there. Your data should still be there
even after a touch - close, but you may be running an older version that
doesn't have that bug fix.

What does VERSION show?

If it isn't 1.2 1.9, you might be able to click the testflight icon and
install the latest version.
