Could I request the field that follows to be imported?

where VALUE can be:

aheadofprint --> in press
ppublish --> printed
epublish --> electronic publication (no paper version)

Do you have a PMID that has this PublicationStatus for testing? Also, how is this supposed to map to a BibTeX field (i.e., what should it be named)?

19895821 contains 'aheadofprint'
19719513 contains 'ppublish'
19454024 contains 'epublish'

These used to be mapped to 'Pst', which is still in use in the MEDLINE format. That would be all right.

If you want to get access to the full XML string, you can do

defaults write edu.ucsd.cs.mmccrack.bibdesk BDSKAddPubMedXMLStringToAnnote 1

I may try that as last resort... I presume in that case I should filter out anything unwanted?

and then process it afterwards. I'm really hesitant to add more fields since it's kind of a slippery slope...

I understand. Let me try to justify my request, then. There are more and more journals in the PubMed that make papers available in preprint format weeks, sometimes months before they actually get published. From the moment they are made avalaible they can be cited, using their doi, for example. But once the final version of the paper is published, you have to use the proper citation. Therefore, it would be useful to have a way to almost-automatically check that a publication in the database has already been published. One way is keeping this field.

Best regards,
