  Highlights of reports received November 13 through November 
  20 from the Niagara Frontier Region include BL.-GR. 
  GNATCATCHER, PURPLE SANDPIPER, gulls and SHORT-EARED OWL. 

  November 16, a very late BL.-GR. GNATCATCHER was found at 
  Rock Point Park in Dunnville, Ontario. This is likely to be 
  the first November record of this species, which usually has 
  left the region by the end of September. Also at Rock Point, 
  5 COMMON LOONS, 50 HORNED GREBES, 150 GADWALL, 4 WHITE-
  WINGED SCOTERS, NOR. SAW-WHET OWL and a PINE SISKIN. 

  Nearby in Wainfleet, at Rock Island, which is off Long Beach 
  Conservation Area, 2 PURPLE SANDPIPERS with a SANDERLING, 20 
  DUNLIN and 10 SURF SCOTERS. At Mohawk Point, 3 more 
  SANDERLINGS and over 100 DUNLIN. 

  On the Niagara River this week, 10 gull species were 
  reported. CALIFORNIA GULL, THAYER'S GULL, 5 ICELAND GULLS 
  and 4 L. BLACK-B. GULLS at the Beck overlook on the lower 
  river. At Niagara Falls, LITTLE GULL in the gorge, L. BLACK-
  B. GULLS at several locations, and a GLAUCOUS GULL above the 
  falls. Also at the falls, BRANT and 2 PEREGRINE FALCONS. And 
  on the upper river, several TUNDRA SWANS. 

  November 15, at the source of the Niagara, along the Bird 
  Island Pier in Buffalo, 450 LONG-TAILED DUCKS, a high count 
  for this location, 1450 BUFFLEHEADS, 400 COMMON GOLDENEYES 
  and small numbers of GADWALL, AMERICAN BLACK DUCK, 
  CANVASBACK, RING-NECKED DUCK, SURF SCOTER, WHITE-WINGED 
  SCOTER, HOODED MERGANSER and RED-BR. MERGANSER. Also 60 D.-
  CREST. CORMORANTS on the water intake and 6 SNOW BUNTINGS 
  flying over the pier. 

  Other reports this week - In the Town of Porter, 3 SHORT-
  EARED OWLS along Dickersonville Road near Route 18 and 
  ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK at Fort Niagara State Park. In East 
  Aurora, at Sinking Ponds, a RED-THROATED LOON, which becomes 
  the 214th species recorded at this sanctuary. At Tifft 
  Nature Preserve in Buffalo, a lingering GRAY CATBIRD and a 
  late, reported LESSER YELLOWLEGS, plus 35 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 
  HOODED MERGANSER, RED-BELLIED WDPKR., HERMIT THRUSH and 
  AMER. TREE SPARROW. In Amherst, along the Ellicott Creek 
  trail, a NORTHERN SHRIKE, plus 2 COMMON LOONS passing 
  overhead, 2 GOLDEN-CR. KINGLETS, 5 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, 2 FOX 
  SPARROWS, WHITE-CR. SPARROW, RUSTY BLACKBIRD and several 
  AMER. TREE SPARROWS and WHITE-THR. SPARROWS. And in the 
  Eggertsville area of Amherst, CAROLINA WREN and 6 PINE 
  SISKINS.
