To contact the Science Museum, call 896-5200. Highlights of reports received January 22 through 29 from the Niagara Frontier Region include TUFTED DUCK, HARLEQUIN DUCK, OREGON JUNCO, and NOR. SAW-WHET OWL. January 24 and 25, a male TUFTED DUCK was found on the Welland Canal, at the lock #1 in Port Weller. This is just the second record of TUFTED DUCK in the BOS archives, excluding two summer records of questionable origin. January 25, at Fort Niagara State Park, a female HARLEQUIN DUCK was reported with 100 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS. Also the 25th, an OREGON JUNCO was found in the Niagara County Town of Royalton, on Orangeport Road, across from the railroad tracks about 100 yards north of Route 31. On Grand Island, at about 6 PM January 27, a rare NOR. SAW- WHET OWL was observed taking a rodent in a front yard on Baseline Road. January 24, north of the Iroquois Refuge on Posson Road, 4 SHORT-EARED OWLS and another SHORT-EARED OWL in the Town of Lancaster. January 29, 1 adult and 4 sub-adult BALD EAGLES were reported on the Niagara River off I-190. The warm waters of Dunkirk Harbor have attracted many waterbirds this week. The highlights were a rare in winter BRANT, plus 2 RED-NECKED GREBES and a GLAUCOUS GULL. Other species in the harbor - PIED-BILLED GREBE, HORNED GREBE, D.- CREST. CORMORANT, GREAT BLUE HERON, MUTE SWAN, AMERICAN BLACK DUCK, NORTHERN PINTAIL, REDHEAD, RING-NECKED DUCK, GREATER SCAUP, HOODED MERGANSER, COMMON MERGANSER, RED-BR. MERGANSER, RUDDY DUCK, BALD EAGLE and AMERICAN COOT. Nearby at Point Gratiot, 2 RED-BELLIED WDPKRS. and 3 TUFTED TITMICE. Gulls on the Niagara River this week included CALIFORNIA GULL number two at the control gates above the falls with two each of ICELAND GULL and L. BLACK-B. GULL. At the power plants, 5 ICELAND GULLS and a THAYER'S GULL. Other reports this week - 14 RING-NECKED PHEASANTS on Youngstown Road in Porter. Five NORTHERN FLICKERS along the Lake Ontario shore, and 3 NORTHERN FLICKERS in a Williamsville yard, along with a pair of RED-BR. NUTHATCHES that have been present for three months. In the Lake Ontario Plains, flocks of 70 and 50 SNOW BUNTINGS at Fort Niagara and Golden Hill State Park. 100 SNOW BUNTINGS with 10 HORNED LARKS and 20 AMER. TREE SPARROWS on Fletcher Chapel Road in the Town of Shelby, and in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, 50 SNOW BUNTINGS with one LAPLAND LONGSPUR. At Tifft Nature Preserve in Buffalo, 2 CAROLINA WRENS and a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD. And at Golden Hill, 5 COMMON REDPOLLS. Dial-a-Bird will be updated Thursday evening, February 5.
