I have used vegetable oil on cattle in a pinch. However, a surfactant is usually the best. We keep the old style green PALMOLIVE liquid on hand at all times. For a small lamb a 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon will relieve bloat in a matter of minutes. I dilute it with about 2 oz of water and use a 60cc syringe with a tube. Above all, learn how to get a feeding tube down your animals. It is the safest and most reliable way to get into the stomach.
My bottle baby has had a chronic problem with bloat due to some esophagus problems she has. I mix 1/4 teaspoon of Palmolive to 1/2 gallon of formula for her to prevent bloat. got 2 new ones this morning, gotta go..
