But be aware that it is absolutely critical that the newborn have sheep colostrum. Substituting cow colostrum reduces the chances of the lamb's survival. You can collect colostrum from a lactating ewe within 24-36 hours after birth and freeze it in ice cube trays to ensure that you have an emergency source on hand.
