Just a quick thought, could you not have a section in the BLFS book that explains how to create the LiveCD, or even simply serves as a BLFS "package" from which to hang the list of dependencies that one would need to create it ?
There would then be a degree of self-consistency. In some ways, the LiveCD could be seen as LFS plus a version of a BLFS book that has had a lot chopped out of it, and possibly a couple of bits added.
