In a column of our local papers "Drive" section recently, the auto "Sleuth"
tells us that BMW is considering an entirely new division of BMW devoted to
hybrid or "Efficient Dynamics" based transportation.
Anyone else hear this?

I've heard a few things about that. I think it makes more sense to
sell those cars as 'ED' models sold side-by-side with gasoline and
diesel models the same way Honda and Toyota sells their hybrids in the
same showroom as their gasoline counterparts.

Does this mean BMW will *finally* be making their vehicles lighter? :^)

Will Viagra help with BMW's ED? =8^O

Kevin,
I heard a lot about this while I was in Michigan. BMW was/is in a joint
venture with Chrysler and GM to work on Hybrid powertrain technology and has a
small group of dedicated engineers in Auburn Hills, MI for this purpose. BMW
was the late entrant to that grouping however and is not the largest financial
investor in it.
Because of this joint venture, I'm guessing this proposed new division is
intended to go 'play in the sandbox' as a Research and Development group
devoted to exploring hybrid powertrain designs only. Instead of being part of
their current powertrain R&D group, perhaps they'll be given some leadership
which is *not* tied to their same diesel, gasoline and hydrogen powertrain
groups. That would alleviate some political conflicts of interest within the
company's divisional leadership I suppose. It shows a commitment toward
investigation into this technology (probably smart due to political inertia),
but not a commitment to hybrid vehicles (like Toyota/Honda)......yet.

Cheers,
Chet Dawes

Folks,

I'd like to put together a map of where everyone lives, just to get a
national picture of the membership on the list.

I'm not going to publish the list, just a map showing quantity of people per
state.

I would like if you would tell me your town, state, and zip just so that if
I figure out a better way to display the map, I can.

Please e-mail to me directly, [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I do ask that you erase the entire subject line, replace it only with
"ADDRESS" so I can filter it properly.

Your help is greatly appreciated!
