an influence on the organization as a whole. Take the Vatican II council,
as the biggest example.
Indeed, but the (increasing) majority of those members are not North Americans, and in fact have a very different attitude to those of North Americans. So insofar as the RC church listens to its membership it isn't liberal North American attitudes that are going to be heard.
