I am unable to reproduce this problem, so it must be something more than
just a large diff (perhaps number of chunks rather than number of lines,
or perhaps just insufficient available memory).

CVS has had diff built-in since 1.9.(something), so plain diff is
irrelelvant. Unfortunately, it looks like the version of 1.10.7 you used
was stripped -- the traceback is completely useless.  If you can
reproduce this with the current version (1.10.8 -- see www.cvshome.org),
I'd be interested in seeing a traceback.
