I wrote it that way to take advantage of Kerberos's mapping between
GSSAPI user identifiers and local user identifiers.  In fact, there is
a FIXME in the code.

For people who don't use Kerberos, some other mechanism must be used.
One possibility would be a CVS configuration file, but that would have
to be maintained which would be a pain.
