I at least partly agree with you. But I find the current state of
affairs quite uncomfortable.

Better yes, good perhaps, but I would have to try it out first. If you
decide to change this, could you look at a related problem: When the
panels are docked it is possible to re-size the height of the main
window, but it won't save below a certain limit. I think it is
caused by the panel window having a minimum height.

p.s. off topic: I tried to have the messages panel open and didn't
experience any hangs in the latest windows build. I think the hang is
caused by the message window never showing up for some odd reason.
