You have to compile in glib2, but it doesn't work through autoconfigure right now. The changes I submitted seems to have messed that up a bit. While i clean that up I would really like to clean up the USE GUI part, but I cannot figure out how to do it when the changes involves the "ext" lib. What is that library for anyway?
