Of course, not all automake-using packages use gnulib. So then getting texinfo.tex from automake is useful (I guess). So, does automake refrain from installing texinfo.tex if the file already exists and is newer? If so, then it seems there can be peaceful coexistence. If not, not. Furthermore, the same is true for config.sub, config.guess, depcomp, install-sh, and tons of other files. Sorry if I'm missing the obvious here.
