You haven't read the message carefully: configure reports no previous
*troff* installation.  This is not the same: In this test, GROFF_G
checks whether there exists a `troff' binary which sets the \n(.g
register.  In case this is true, it is GNU troff, and we can safely
overwrite it.  Otherwise, it is not GNU troff, and we have to use the
`g' prefix so that it doesn't get shadowed or even overwritten.
