With a dual-boot machine (Mandrake 7.1 & Win98) Win98/DOS fails to boot
inside a VM with "invalid system disk". The machine is configured as
follows:

0: b, Win95/FAT32
1: 82, Linux swap
2: 83, Linux native (ext2fs)

The Win98 boot sequence is:

title bleh
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
makeactive
chainloader +1

This works fine outside of VMWare, but when I try to boot inside a VM
(configured for physical drive), grub comes up, executes OK, but BIOS
reports "Invalid system disk". The drive is the first physical drive in the
VM.

The weird part is that my co-worker is VM/booting Win2k (server!) on an
identical machine without problems (he uses a slightly different partition
layout with a /boot, and a reiserfs Linux root though).

The physical disk is a Maxtor 17G unit using DMA/66.

I would appreciate any ideas on where to go with this - I'm not sure how to
further diagnose this.

Thanks!

Jan
