Grub is interactive. When the menu comes up, hit the ESC key to get to the grub console. Then one can try out any command, etc, at one's discretion. Make a grub boot floppy, then one is not dependent on having grub installed to the h-d somewhere. Please read the grub info docs. Repeat prior suggestion.
