Maybe related: IBM e-server with ServeRAID SCSI controller same problem: one can "see" the disks from a bootable floppy (or from the booted Linux partition) but a grub 0.93 will not boot, it will just hang the machine RESET is needed; reverting to 0.92 fixes the problem.
