Summary: grub2-install reports " "cannot find EFI directory" if there is a misleading apparent duplicate ESP path in /boot Project: GNU GRUB Submitted by: lewyssmith Submitted on: Tue 09 Feb 2021 11:23:26 AM UTC Category: None Severity: Major Priority: 5 - Normal Item Group: Software Error Status: None Privacy: Public Assigned to: None Originator Name: Lewis Smith Originator Email: lewyssm...@laposte.net Open/Closed: Open Release: Release: 2.02 Discussion Lock: Any Reproducibility: Every Time Planned Release: None _______________________________________________________ Details: https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28292 On a Mageia 7 system, unusually the ESP path is /boot/EFI/[EFI/] i.e. the ESP is mounted on /boot/EFI/ ; rather than on the more normal /boot/efi/. (In Mageia 8 both variants are linked). By chance, this user had an additional spurious empty directory /boot/efi/EFI/, and grub2-install always fails thus: # grub2-install installing for x86_64-efi platform grub2-install: error: cannot find EFI directory Once the extra directory is removed, leaving just the correct /boot/EFI[/ESP...], the 'grub2-install command works, so is clearly upset by the half-duplicate path. # grub2-install Installation finished. No error reported I checked all open bugs first... _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: <https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?60028> _______________________________________________ Message sent via Savannah https://savannah.gnu.org/
