So it seems that this is really the enhancement request stated before http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=146 (if not exactly, in essence). If not can you explain what is different so we can perhaps open an new enhancement request? People have given some workarounds which may or may not suit. I just don't see any value in poo-pooing useful suggestions, (complex or otherwise), for a problem that we already know about and is not implemented 'elegantly' in the code. Eventually you just end up irritating people and they stop helping. If it is not the same as http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=146 (if not exactly, in essence).
