That's strange. Can you use GDB to find out where the segmentation
fault occurred? Do something like this:
$ gdb /path/to/tar
(gdb) run -tvf /mnt/dvd/backup.tar
... long listing, followed by segmentation fault ...
(gdb) where
I've tried this a few times. I have not been able to reproduce the
problem. If it happens again, I'll try to isolate it.
