Good variety of birds for this morning's SSW bird walk in the weather that soon turned to sleet. The clumps of ash seeds were hosting flocks of Rusty Blackbirds and Purple Finches (up to ten within a single binocular view) along the Wilson Trail north, just south of Owen's Platform. On the pond among mallards and wood ducks was a Gadwall, a male Hooded Merganser, and a female Aythya which had a weak wing spur indicative of Ring-Necked Duck -- maybe someone more expert and/or ambitious wants to turn it into a tufted duck :-). The ducks were in the main pond early, but were flushed to the Sherwood side.
