Here is information from Dr. Jarra Jagne of the Avian Health Program at the
Animal Health Diagnostic Center at Cornell University.

On 3/18/22, the Animal Health Diagnostic Center at Cornell received
notification of illness and death in mostly juvenile snow geese and other wild
waterfowl at the Montezuma Wildlife Refuge in Seneca County, NY. Six birds
consisting of four snow geese, one ring-necked duck and an unspecified duck
were submitted by the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC)
for preliminary testing. On March 28, 2022, The New York State Department of
Agriculture and Markets, received notice from USDA Wildlife Services
confirming highly pathogenic Eurasian H5 Avian Influenza (Avian Flu) in five
of the birds except the ring-necked duck. The preliminary findings were
confirmed by the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS) at
the National Veterinary Services Laboratory (NVSL).
