I fully agree with Nicholas here. I also used rack rentals for my CCIE prep. 
First it's MUCH cheaper than real hardware, you get a full rack of ISR's (at 
IPexpert only of course) and indeed when something is not working, it's not a 
Dynamips bug or a bug on your platform, but just an error in your configuration 
and you are 100% confident of that.
If there is a problem, there are active support people on-call or on-site to 
help you out with everything you need and you always get your voucher back to 
reschedule and get a good experience.

Second is the motivation. Since you actually paid for the time to be on the 
equipment, it motivated me to really get up at 6 in the morning and do labs. If 
I would have my personal rack, I would be much easier and not be concentrated 
as I have that rack 24/7.
