I must be messing up somewhere. I compiled rscsi and installed it on a Redhat 7.2 machine (itchy). If I log into that machine from a remote machine as "rsh -l rscsi itchy", it connects. It doesn't ask for a passwd because I set up the rhosts file in rscsi home directory to let that user@host connect. rscsi even logs the connection to /tmp/rscsi, when I enter gibberish. So, I believe I have rscsi set up right. But, the following is what I get when running cdrecord:
cdrecord -vv -dd dev=REMOTE:rscsi@itchy:0,0,0 -inq dev: REMOTE:rscsi@itchy:0,0,0 speed: 4 fs: 4194304 Cdrecord 1.10 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2001 Jörg Schilling TOC Type: 1 = CD-ROM scsidev: 'REMOTE:rscsi@itchy:0,0,0' devname: 'REMOTE:rscsi@itchy:0,0,0' scsibus: 0 target: 0 lun: 0 scg__open(REMOTE:rscsi@itchy:0,0,0) 0,0,0 Warning: Using remote SCSI interface. cdrecord: locuser: 'kdb' rscsiuser: 'rscsi' host: 'itchy' rcmd: socket: m cdrecord: Permission denied. Cannot get connection to remote host. Cannot open SCSI driver. cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'. Make sure you are root. I don't get anything in /tmp/RSCSI when running cdrecord, as if the connection never gets to rscsi. One complication is the system running cdrecord is using ldap for authentication, as well as host lookup.
