What is "none" : off I assume means do not start the ethernet network. But what is none.     When I have it set to "on" my installation halts with "system halted" and I cannot see a visible error.  I have not tried none yet. Next week perhaps.

"none" is the autoconfig method - so none = static. Or it could be auto/dhcp I think.
