Here we had that kind of problem but we finally settled for a file//N:\appz.exe to start the application and we add a little prompt box "click on open to start the application", once they click OK of the alert box, then click open, it stats the appz. We never heard of it and everybody is using the appz through our Intranet so it must be ok.
