My experience has been nothing but positive with WinCVS it is
a very well designed client :)
No need on possibly dampening other peoples opinons
just because of a little difficulty.
It works really nicely it just takes a little
reading and documentation to set it up.

try using the .rhosts authentication
CVS has to be running as a pserver on the linux box and make sure you
connect
to the correct port (default 2401)
