I remember 2 things from when I upgraded my CF7 to a jdk. The first was that I could not use the java path in c:\program files. The space was giving a problem for some reason. I had to do a reinstall of java to c:\java. The second was that some date operation was totally messed up. Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly what the problem was. Upgrading and then downgrading again is just a single line in a config file ({cfroot}/runtime/bin/jvm.config) so if there's any real problems, you just flip back.
