I think you guys know this from the end of last week, but I wanted to make
it official. Sorry there was some miscommunication on our end about the
timing of the release. Hopefully most questions will be answered with this.

On January 7, 2002 Macromedia is making available a new ColdFusion Server 5
Developer Edition and a new Trial Edition that automatically converts to
the Developer Edition after 30 days.

The ColdFusion Server 5 Developer Edition is a non-expiring, full featured,
version of ColdFusion Server 5 limited to a single browser and licensed for
development use only. Below are some Q&As on the Developer and Trial
Editions of ColdFusion Server 5, the differences between these two
editions, licensed uses of these two editions, and how to get these editions.

What is the ColdFusion Server 5 Trial Edition?
The ColdFusion Server 5 Trial Edition is a free, full-featured edition of
ColdFusion Server 5 to be used by prospects and customers to evaluate
ColdFusion Server 5. It allows multiple IP addresses (browsers or users)
to connect to an application, includes all the features of ColdFusion
Server Enterprise and is licensed for use for 30 days from the time of
installation.

What is the ColdFusion Server 5 Developer Edition?
The ColdFusion Server 5 Developer Edition is a single IP limited,
non-expiring, free version of ColdFusion Server 5. It is designed to allow
prospects that are evaluating ColdFusion to use it for more than 30 days,
students and others to learn ColdFusion, and independent developers to
build ColdFusion applications on a standalone workstation.

What is the difference between the Trial Edition and Developer Edition of
ColdFusion Server 5?
The Trial edition can be accessed from multiple IP addresses and is offered
to enable customers and prospects to evaluate ColdFusion Server in
real-life scenario, including load testing, during a 30-day trial period.
The Developer edition can be accessed from a single IP address and is
offered to help customers to learn ColdFusion and/or develop ColdFusion
applications on their standalone workstation.

How do prospects and customers get the Trial Edition of ColdFusion Server 5?
The Trial Edition can be downloaded or ordered on CD from the
Macromedia.com web site, distributed on CD at a tradeshow or seminar, or be
redistributed by Macromedia ISVs and other redistribution partners. It is
also available in numerous ColdFusion 5 books.

How do prospects and customers get the Developer Edition of ColdFusion
Server 5?
The Trial Edition must still be downloaded to get the Developer Edition of
ColdFusion Server 5. The Trial Edition automatically converts to the
Developer Edition at the end of the 30-day trial period. If you have
already downloaded and installed the ColdFusion Trial, before the
availability of Developer Edition (January 2, 2002), then the only way to
get the Developer Edition is to download the latest version of the trial
edition. Note that prior versions of the ColdFusion Server 5 Trial Editions
do not automatically convert to the Developer Edition.

Can I deploy applications with the Developer Edition?
No. The Developer Edition is licensed for development use only and can be
accessed only by a single IP address. The Developer Edition is not
licensed for any deployment use.

How much does the ColdFusion Server 5 Developer Edition cost?
The Developer Edition is free and can be downloaded from the Macromedia
ColdFusion download page at
