I haven't run into any performance problems yet. Presumably, with a large enough dataset you might, but SQL Serve handles indexed strings nicely enough in most cases.
well we've seen performance differences on joins, w/the non GUID doing noticeably better on tables with 100K and up rows. i don't know where the real trade off begins but if your db will ever get big, i'd hesitate in using GUIDs.
