I recently had an unexpected experience with a well-known web host who
purports to offer ColdFusion MX hosting. I was attracted by price and
the basic set up was automated - a total breeze.

After getting an account set up on a shared hosting server - I
discovered that the /flashservices/gateway/ servlet mapping was not
operational. I informed them of this and asked them to fix it. After
much bumbling around, which included several emails where they tried to
explain that the reason I was getting a 404 was that those directories
didn't exist, they finally came to realize that the servlet was disabled
by default.

They then proceeded to tell me that they wouldn't enable the servlet
"because it affected all sites on the server". At that point, I
initiated getting a refund.

My question is, has there been any published information about the Flash
Remoting servlet causing either security and/or performance problems?
IMO, the web host was making an aribtrary decision based on ignorance
and fear. I've been doing Flash Remoting for about 3 years now and I
have yet to hear of any security exposure (beyond that of failing to
adequately secure a web service).
