The Technology & Social Change Group (TASCHA) at the University of Washington
Information School explores the design, use, and effects of information and
communication technologies in communities facing social and economic

The student in this position will play an integral role by working directly
with TASCHA's Communications Specialist, along with the leadership and

TASCHA's research, the areas we work in, and to provide communications support
to the TASCHA team. As we want this to be a mutually beneficial role, TASCHA's
Communications Specialist will work with the student to identify and nurture
their interests and goals in working at TASCHA, while still getting the
important support needed to communicate our work effectively.

Duties include:
* Writing about TASCHA's research for dissemination on the group's
website, social media platforms, and more
* Assisting the Communications Specialist in managing and maintaining

communications platforms
* Actively monitoring and reporting on what is happening in the fields of
Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D), Digital
Development, Public Libraries (in and outside the United States), Innovation,
eLearning, and more related to technology & social change
* Providing regular updates on their work to both the Communications
Specialist and other TASCHA members
* Participating in TASCHA meetings as necessary and appropriate
*       Other duties as assigned

Requirements
* Current, or incoming, UW Masters student for the 2016-2017 academic year
* Exceptionally strong written and oral communication skills
* Strong organizational skills and positive work practices (i.e., take
initiative, flexible with shifting priorities, and the ability to work
collaboratively as part of a team)
* Ability to work independently - planning and carrying out tasks with
guidance from the Communications Specialist
*       Working knowledge of WordPress
* Savvy in strategic social media use and professional online
communications
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
* Interest in the work of the Technology & Social Change Group (TASCHA)
* Student must be enrolled for a minimum of 10 credits per quarter to be
eligible.

Desired qualifications
* Previous experience in writing for online communications (website/blog
posts, briefs, etc.)
* Experience conducting desk research, literature reviews, and scanning
the landscape of research areas to spot trends
* Experience in managing and maintaining a WordPress site
* Experience working in international development and/or public libraries

Qualified students with an interest in the design, use, and effects of
information and communication technologies (ICTs) in communities facing social
and economic challenges and who are enrolled in the Information School autumn
quarter 2016 are encouraged to apply. Students from other departments will also
