UNDER OUR SPOTLIGHT

The North Charles Garden

Clients and councilors from Man Alive, Inc. have been working hard to clean up
their adopted vacant lot, located at 2012 North Charles Street, in order to
transform it into a garden. With the help of the Neighborhood Design Center,
volunteer designers and a landscape architect have created plans for the site
which include small fruit and flowering trees. The Baltimore Orchard Project
will assist with teaching clients, councilors, and other volunteers how to grow
and maintain fruit trees. This aspect of gardening will be incorporated into
one of Man Alive Inc.’s counseling programs.

The Charles Village Benefits District has made the cleanups possible by
donating trash bags, lending tools to volunteers, and picking up filled trash
bags after the cleanups. Cleanups take place every other Thursday, starting on
January 17th, at 11am on the lot. Everyone is welcome to participate, so if you
are interested in volunteering with the Man Alive Garden Club, please contact
Mikah Zaslow at mzas...@ndc-md.org or (443) 478-3609; or Grace Sweeney at
geswee...@manaliveinc.org or (410) 837-4292 ext. 406.
