Hi, I do not have any statistics, but if your garden is accessible to the dogs or downslope from the dog park and the dog owners are not diligent about cleaning up then there is the potential for fecal contamination issues. Fecal contamination is a concern as it can transmit harmful diseases, e.g., E. Coli, or nematode cysts.
If there are issues like that then you might want to restrict cultivation of raw/ noncooked crops to raised beds or parts of the garden that are not downslope. You might also want to install a grassy "buffer strip" along the sides of the garden that border the dog park- this will likely alleviate most if not all of your concerns barring a major flooding event. That said, please take my advice with a grain of salt- this isn't an area that I active work in or research. I suggest that you start by consulting a county extension agent or a website like this: http://smallfarms.oregonstate.edu/sfn/spg08handling Sincerely, Guy On Thu, Oct 27, 2011 at 1:18 PM, Lonnie Brundage <lonsg...@aol.com> wrote: > Does anyone have statistics concerning the effects a dog park adjacent to a > community garden.
