What was originally unused library space is now a sustainable and entirely self-sufficient garden, classroom, and kitchen; a 21st Century State of the Art Learning Facility. The opening of the Center allows Green Bronx Machine to keep doing what we do -- educating, feeding, and inspiring students, and changing the narrative of outcomes for children in the Bronx and across America! Some of the exciting features include our: * Indoor Teaching Farm, with seven Tower Garden systems that keep crops growing fresh regardless of the weather outside * A Traditional Grow Light System * A Seedling Development System * Electricity-Generating Bicyles * Media and Resource Center, stocked with Common Core curriculum guides and lesson plans so that our educators and students can maximize the benefits of the space * An Outdoor Garden with raised garden beds and self-irrigation system * And… GBM Mobile Classroom Kitchen The Green Bronx Machine Mobile Classroom Kitchen! Developed right here by Green Bronx Machine and PortEquip (http://www.stephensoncustomcase.com/product/25/GREEN-BRONX-MACHINE-Mobile-Classroom-Kitchen) , this exciting mobile, professional grade kitchen is revolutionary in the world of culinary and nutritional education. Fully equipped with a sink, stove, oven, refrigerator, steamer, and storage space, the Green Bronx Machine Mobile Classroom Kitchen is easily maneuvered and can travel to any classroom at CS55! To make sure everyone reaps the benefits, we’ve even equipped it with a camera and screen to make demonstrations for large groups more accessible. We have already begun using this space to make vibrant, nutritious meals for students and parents, while incorporating our unique STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) curriculum! The National Health, Wellness and Learning Center has been certified as a School Garden to School Cafe Site by the New York City Department of Education. This endorsement allows the Center to use produce grown at CS55 in meals served in our very own school cafeteria using school employees to prepare the meals, meaning we are even more sustainable and self-sufficient than ever! Tower Gardens Change Food Idea Accelerator Program Green Bronx Machine is proud to announce that we are the first partners of the Change Food (http://www.changefood.org/projects/idea-accelerator-program/) Idea Accelerator Program (http://www.changefood.org/projects/idea-accelerator-program/) . As a part of this program, our Mobile Kitchen Classroom will be featured and promoted throughout the year, and at the November 2016 Change Food Fest (http://www.changefood.org/projects/change-food-festival/) in New York City. See you there! GBM at State of STEM More exciting news for 2016 We’ve had some great things going on here in the past few months, and things are looking great for 2016 as well! First, Green Bronx Machine was featured on PBS in the documentary In Defense of Food, featuring best-selling author Michael Pollan - you can still watch it online (http://www.pbs.org/video/2365635287/) . On January 6 El Capitan traveled to Detroit to speak at Calvin College where he received a resounding standing ovation . We're particularly proud of our partner organization, Green St. Louis Machine with programing in public and private schools, Boys and Girls Clubs and elsewhere across Saint Louis. Presently El Capitan is in Dubai working with Knowledge Human Development Authority and spending time with the winners of the United Arab Emirates national science competition (https://www.khda.gov.ae/en/) . Together with these accomplished students, El Capitan participated in What Works (http://whatworks-web.azurewebsites.net/en/events.html) and is working towards a local food production project to bring healthier food to schools, citizens and workers in Dubai. We're hoping to present in March 2016 at Global Education and Skills Forum (https://educationandskillsforum.org) in collaboration with Varkey Foundation (https://www.varkeyfoundation.org) and Global Teacher Prize (http://www.globalteacherprize.org) bringing our Green Bronx Machine mission to the world!
