The Connecticut Community Gardening Association knows the importance of
pollinators for the production of fruits and vegetables.

To encourage the planting of flowers which attract pollinators we are
holding a pollinator garden contest. This contest is open to CCGA members
and all community gardens in Connecticut.

The rules and judging are simple. Along with a brief history of the
community garden please submit:

1) Each contestant must make a written submission by email to
i...@ctcommunitygardening.org.

2) Each submission must contain a list of all pollinator attracting
flowers planted in the garden. (Latin names preferred but not required.)

3) Each submission must include at least one picture of the pollinator
garden.

4) Each submission must include the name (if any) and location of the
garden.

5) Each submission must include the name, address, telephone number and
email address for a contact person.

The judging will be as follows:

1) One point will be given for each pollinator plant variety in the
garden.

2) One point will be given for each picture submitted. (Not to exceed
ten.)

3) One point will be given for each half hour spent observing
pollinators visiting the flowers.

4) Two points will be given for each child observing the pollinators
for the half hour. (A child is anyone under 21 years of age for purposes of
this contest.)

5) One point will be given for each person attending a half hour
educational talk on the importance of pollinators to your community garden
if the talk includes a naming of each pollinator plant.

6) Again two points for each child attending the talk.

We have attached a list of common pollinator inviting plants and other
information on pollinator gardens. Your pollinator garden will not only
enhance your produced yield, it will benefit bees, butterflies, wasps and
other pollinators so important to our ecosystem, and the flowers will make
your community garden more beautiful.

It is Ok if you plant the pollinator garden solely to enter this contest.
In fact, we will give you a bonus point for doing so.

Questions maybe be submitted by email. All entries must be submitted
by September
15, 2016. The decision of the judges will be final and solely within the
discretion of the judges. All submitted materials become the property of
the CCGA and information concerning the winning gardens will be published
on our website. Photo credits will be honored if requested.
