I do not know where the theory started, except to say that, as in humans, part of the bee works electronically, tiny electrical impulses sending signals, and most likely associated with the navigation system that bees use. With prior knowledge that low frequency radiations cause problems for bees, I would guess that to suspect a role involving other frequencies of radiation was worth a look.
