One thing to keep in mind is the fact they these were all live broadcasts last night and were probably all on some sort of intentional delay device to keep a "Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction" from going out over the air and risking a huge FCC fine. I don't think anything outside of news is actually "live" anymore. It's too financially risky.

Last night, in observing the various New Year's Eve broadcasts, this "problem" was in stark evidence. In fact, last night it was not just the sound that was not in sync, it was the time as well. Some TV broadcasts were as much as four or five seconds behind or ahead of others as indicated by their countdown display clocks. None were right on the money according to WWV, the "official" time signal of the United States government. Now, a few seconds one way or the other is obviously nothing to be alarmed about, but with all the technology available and with all the technicians and equipment on hand, why can't they get it right?
