The parallel stuff actually works the other way.  It allows you to push
out urpm* commands to multiple machines.  ie, if you were the sysadmin
of 50 machines, you could be on yours and enter 
  urpmi --parallel company packagename
and it would connect to the other 49 machines and install the rpm on
them.

It wasn't too difficult to get working the one time I figured it out.
But your case is complicated by the fact that it doesn't do what you
expected it to.
